Newly unemployed, first time

    Hi folks,

I recently became unemployed for the first time in my life. I'm 33 and work in construction.

I signed up with an agency and they rang me this evening with three or four days work, starting in the morning. I was going to go into the dole office to sign on tomorrow as I only received my P45 today. I was let go last Friday week.

So, can I backdate my signing on to the start of last week? Or can I sign on at all seeing as I have a few days work now?

Also, going forward, there is no guarantee of work with the agency so can I sign on for days I'm not working?

You should have signed on the first working day that you became unemployed, regardless of not having your P45.

Your starting work tomorrow so you are no longer classed as unemployed so cant make a claim.

However as soon as you have no work again, then you can go in and make a claim for Jobseekers Benfit, if you have enuf stamps or Job Seekers allowance which is means tested if you don't qualify for JSB

Once you on Jobseekers and get part time work you can get paid for the days you cant get work, if you don't work more than 3 days in any week.
