Upgrade Advice

Hi I'm getting ready to upgrade my PC, basically a new build but I have sufficient HDD storage already. My budget is 500 but you can see I'm stretching a bit, not to worry I just want to see do you guys have any advice on wether this build will be good and are all the components compatible?

I don't think tha PSU loojs great. Best I can see around that price and is in stock is the CX500.

What about an AMD build and pushing more into other areas - is it for gaming?
What have you got as it is?

Yes it going to be primarily for gaming and running a program called SolidWorks but I'm more focused on gaming

No doubt. Good PSU brand well made and has the connectors needed.

Your rig will take up 200w tops, Gpu 180w max.

So don't worry.

I can't find any recent benchmarks but apparently it uses multi-threading quite well, but only in newer versions. The AMD CPU would be slower per core than Intel, but you have more cores (6 vs 4). If you want an extra bit of push, you can get 8 cores with the 8320. It's just €132.54 at the moment on hardwareversand.

I would agree and heres a few changes you could make to keep it as cheap as possible . While getting an 8 core cpu .

At 525 I would say go with that setup but buy the ram I linked . You are getting two sticks so if one goes bad you can still use your machine . I'm only suggesting two sticks because it's a work machine and you can't afford for it to be down for too long .

The only reason I was going to pick one stick was so I could add another at a later date which would add to 16GB of RAM

Do you mean 2x4GB? Or is this about the future when you might have 16GB?
It shouldn't make much difference either way. In the olden days, it used to be more strain on the controller to have 4 modules in an overclocked system, but that doesn't really apply these days - and you won't be overclocking anyway.

Having 2 modules can be faster than 1 as they can run in dual channel, but the difference is near-negligible.

You are 100% right . I just went with 2 sticks because its a work machine and was thinking if your 8gb fails then he pc is down for a few hours at minimum . If it's a machine that makes you a living go fro 2 x 4gbs sticks ,
