NLP or HypNosis or CBT for anxiety and low self esteem ?

    Ok so I'm not versed in any of the above apart from hypnosis when I did hypnobirthing and it seemed to work for me. However lately I have following issues anxiety, anger and no self esteem and went to a hypnosis psychotherapist asking for a hypnosis CD like te hypnobirthing and CBT because from what I gather from my own googlin it seems like it would be the best. Anyway the person I went to discounted CBT and is starting me in regression and NLP which I'm thinking of cancelling. Is there any merit in any of this?

    Also what are the costs likely to be for CBT therapy?

    NLP has little if any evidence base, I don't know much about hypnosis and CBT would work for anxiety and anger.

    CBT may also work for self-esteem, but there are other therapies which will work for self-esteem

    There's quite a strong evidence base for the CBT treatment of low self-esteem, and CBT is the treatment of choice for anxiety and anger. There's no real evidence for the effects of NLP, and none whatsoever for rebirthing.

    There is often a placebo effect.

    See the sticky on how to chose a counsellor/therapist/psychologist as there are many many people claiming to be CBT these days when they actually know very little about it.

    Costs will vary depending on qualifications and experience, but CBT is also often available through the HSE Mental Health Services. It might sometimes be more expensive per session than counselling, but tends to be a time-limited therapy so may be less expensive overall.

    Always a good idea to google "evidence based treatment for" whatever! :)
