Stene have extended their 10 euro day trips until 20 Dec. Thy call it a Christmas shopping trip but you are limited to what you can buy on the ship as you only get an hour an a bit in Holyhead !
I went a few weeks ago with my young son and he loved it. Its 10 euro all in, no hidden taxes or crap like that. A good day out anyway !

Is there a film on board or do you have to pay for it?

Films are free. Food is really good value. Main courses GBP5. Check out their website. Much better experience then Irish Ferries in my opinion.

You can tart it up all you want, but Holyhead is Holyhead.

No. If you fail to return you'll be charged full fare and I believe the offer only exists ex-Dublin.

Holyhead may be Holyhead and always will be, but never underestimate UK alcohol and tobacco prices as an incentive..

What do they actually sell on the boat?

Rosslare too, but I see what you mean about not being able to start a day trip from the far side of the channel.

Its £10 day trip from fishguard to Roslare.

How could they charge you the full price? Do they just add it to your credit card?

My relations used to do it now and then.

That would be great, now if only they would do it as reasonable with car...

Your 2x10 will become two full fares, read the terms. Non return is a default on the discount.

Book a return for say a Friday on Stena.ie for 10 euro, Then go to Stena.co.uk and book a return day trip for mon or Tuesday (if you want a few days) and book a day trip to Dublin for 10 sterling. To really make it foolproof you book the outward trip and get a friend/partner to put the return on their card. Ta Dah !
Or use a top up type of credit card to book it so they cant recharge you as you will only have enough money on it to cover the fares..Ta DAH !

Can someone point out where in the terms and conditions that it says that you will be charged full amount if you fail to make the return sailing? I honestly cant see it. Apologies for being pedantic, I'm thinking about doing this in a week or so. I can't see the harm, as I usually buy stuff on board and have breakfast, lunch or what ever - so they are still making their money out of me :)

If you click on the 'terms and conditions' link on the offer page - below is what you see.

Terms and conditions, applicable to both day trips:

•Day trips are by foot only and are the same price for adults and children (4 – 15years), infants (0-3years) travel free.
•Available daily on the Dublin Port - Holyhead route from 3 November – 18 December.
•Available daily on the Rosslare - Fishguard route from 3 November – 27 November and 10 December – 18 December.
•Only available on the routes specified.
    •^Available on selected sailings
•Passengers must disembark the ferry in Holyhead and Fishguard and will be required to show identification. A driving licence, citizenship card or utility bill will usually suffice. A birth certificate will provide adequate proof of identity for your child. Citizens of a non-EU country must hold the necessary documents required for entry into Britain, otherwise you may be refused. If this happens we may be fined, and you will be liable for that fine under the Terms of Business. Other passport holders should check with the relevant embassy regarding passport and visa requirements.
•No refunds if the booking is cancelled.
•Passengers are not permitted to bring luggage or own alcohol onboard.
•€3 service fee applies to non-web bookings.
•No charge for payment by debit card. However, a €6 handling fee applies to payment by credit card.
•It is not valid in conjunction with any other offer, discount or promotion including Tesco Clubcard Deals tokens.
    •Subject to availability.
    •Terms and conditions apply.
•Onboard shopping offers are subject to availability while stocks last.
•We recommend that you check-in one hour before departure.
•** Valid on purchases of £25 or more, excluding alcohol and promotional offers. One voucher per transaction.
•† Compared with high street prices.

They don't do a ''Roll Call'' before sailing back so go ahead and do it.:D

What do you think the ticketing computer system is?

Its in their full Terms of Business that promotional fares are voided if not used in full.

Show me where it says that please ! Voided means cancelled, so whats the problem ? You will have booked your ticket from the other end to come home. I fail to see your point ?

I did this a few weeks ago, I enjoyed the day trip. Sailing takes about 3hrs 15 mins.

Sea wasn't too rough the day I went. I originally booked it for a day which turned out to be Force 9 gales so I was able to move it online (free of charge) to the following weekend (sailing still went ahead but I preferred a more comfortable journey!).

There's very little to do in Holyhead but you only have just over an hour there.

you've still got to get from Holyhead to Fishguard, and then back to Dublin from Rosslare all on public transport. It's probably cheaper to book a return bus ticket to wherever in the UK you're going (its only €50 return to London on Bus Eireann).

Why do you have to get to Fishguard to come home ? See link below

sorry misread earlier post, thought the UK-Ireland day trip was only available on the Fishguard-Rosslare route.

OK might be worth doing but it depends where you're looking to go, I assume nobody wants to spend a weekend in Holyhead itself.
