Starting a calf on ration

    just wondering what age do ye start suckler calves on ration and what is the best type to start them on?

    have a really good calf 3 weeks old and i want to get him started asap.

    Id say you could start him.away, some kind of a ration type, startacalf from glanbia?

    a small bit of calf starter left in front of him and he wont be that long getting a taste for it. if your going throwing it to a few one of the older lads will usually train the rest of them.

    Now's perfect to start him off. Introduce him to a double handfull of crunch, they usually don't be long getting a taste for it. Remove and replace any uneaten ration every day until he gets a taste for it.

    yes I let cows lick trough clean and add fresh if uneaten!


    I use the greenvale sticky ration .. they love it .. but believe it or not calves go mad for dairy nuts too.. neighbour of mine always starts them on dairy nuts and sugar!

    Can the calf nut still be got? They were very small like turkey pellets.
