What's wrong with me?

Okay, I'll try keep this brief. I'm male, nineteen, and in third level education. I have problems where sometimes I get really down and depressed, and other times then I'm fine, even really happy at times. Sometimes it seems as though there isn't even a cause for this, and no trigger. Today for example, I was buying a new pair of jeans. Up to then I had a really good day, and was feeling positive about getting some work done tonight. However, in the changing room whilst looking in the mirror I caught a sight of myself and it just hit me how ugly I was; I noticed the acne and the acne scars, my out of place nose, everything. Since then, my mind has been racing and I've been feeling depressed all evening. It is also worth mentioning maybe that sometimes when I drink I can either feel really happy and energetic, or I can feel like self harming, coupled with a severe sense of worthlessness. I sometimes especially notice this when I see other guys getting off with good looking girls or whatever; surely it's more than jealousy?

    Can somebody give me advice?

Have you gone to a GP about this? If not, you should.

Gp is the way to go dude.

Also, your college counsellor is worth an appointment.

Hey, thanks for the responses. No, I haven't gone to a GP. What should I say? Also, I don't always feel like this, just sometimes! Must look into going to a college counsellour, because it's really quite knackering to live this way. It feels weird though, because even since I made that post earlier, I've calmed down and feel more at peace

I would say go see your doctor tell them how you feel.. everyone's different its just how you want to perceive it.. am 21 and can honestly say 17 upwards was a struggle with emotions .. lifes to short and all the best on your journey

It could be any number of things OP, and it's impossible to diagnose over the internet. I'm concerned that you mentioned self-harming...

Get it checked out mate, that's the only thing to do. Life is too short to be living on an emotional rollercoaster and I can guaruntee you far more people than you might think in terms of people you know have sought and recieved similar help. Check in for an appointment at the college doctor and/or the SU Welfare Officer - they'll be able to advise you further on getting it sorted out
