Got approved for the same in the first go had a heat recovery unit included in it i think it was costing round 4K "muller" but went to teagasc energy effi work shop and there was a guy from moore park there who was head of all that stuff and he said that unless you intend not to pre cool milk through a plate cooler en route to the tank they are not worth it, and even buy not pre cooling they are slow to get back a return of out lay.I did not purchase and am glad i did not, as the tank cools so quick i dont think it would even get a chance to work.

Was told by my bulk tank salesman who also sells the recovery unit not to bother. As tank cools so rapidly. Reckons they make sense with less efficient tanks. Might be just salesman talk but in fairness I had bought tank the previous year and was thinking of getting recovery unit

expensive way of warming the water. Pay back would be long

Maybe if you have an ice maker, are most new tanks not dx? Chap who I'm buying a tank off told me to get a plate cooler instead of an ice maker, wayy more bang for buck.

Exactly if u have an inefficient cooling system they have a payback or if they were way cheaper than what they are. My
Tank is finished cooling within a few minutes of finishing milking. But I know you are building ice on off peak esb. Basically the new flooded evaporators are fast to cool and use less power than the ice bank but the ice bank uses more power but at cheap prices.
