Has anyone heard of thisorganisation, there link http://www.ngoabroad.com/ was in the volunteer.ie website, I am interested in doing volunteering overseas so I checked it out, I was expecting a better, more modern website for an NGO. Anyway I applied, to it after doing a questionaire and sending my resumé, I was instantly contacted by someone called Ann McLaughlin, which was weird because it usually takes a few days to get contacted (if at all).

Anyway I spoke to her, and she said there is a volunteer position in Morocco for three months and apparently I have to pay 3 installments: 300,300,120, and then 12 a day whilst I am over there. Which raised a few suspicions with me.

I decided to google them and this one Ann, and I cannot find anything except this review website http://www.abroadreviews.com/ngo-abroad

Are these people legit or is it a scam?

    Dear IrishProd,
I had never heard of the NGO you spoke of but on opening the link you provided and seeing the terms and conditions I think it would be wise to find an alternative. Like you, I was surprised and suspicious of their website 'how to apply section: where it would seem that one is required to pay 300 dollars on receipt of their first tranche of volunteer information and soon after it mentions paying another similar sum etc. As you would have seen it also has 5 Paypal 'buttons' to facilitate further payments to their consultants.

While I am not disparaging this particular organisation I think it would be prudent to do some more research. Many of these NGOs are not charities as we know them. Rather, they are profit making ventures and you are a seen as 'customer', not a volunteer. Personally, I would run the proverbial mile away from the one you mentioned.
