Hair question

Ok firstly - I know next to nothing about hair or beauty so any advice would be awesome!

I'm going to the hairdresser this weekend and planning to change my hair colour I think. My natural colour is a kind of medium brown, darker than mousey. The last couple of years I've had a kind of dark brown colour put in it that's a little red.

I want to change my colour to get that kind of brown fading into blonde colour, but since I have the slightly red base in my hair at the moment I don't think that would work? The colour has fairly faded (over two months since it was coloured) but I know red and blonde doesn't work too well.

My hair is shoulder length and my complexion I've been told would suit most colours (except very dark).

I'm not sure if what I want is even possible and I don't even know what to ask for when I ring up to make the appointment... Any advice?

I think it's ombre hair you need to ask for, this kind of effect?

If you go for a deep enough brown at the roots you'll probably be able to mask the red tones. The ends could need bleaching more than once to get them light enough for the effect you're after. Some toning products (to reduce brassiness) and a lot of TLC will probably be needed. I had ombre done for a while and it left my ends like straw because I didn't really look after it.

I'm no expert btw, just going on my own experience. Your hairdresser will be able to tell you if it'll work :)

Yeah that's the sort if idea! Ok, I'll ask for ombré, thanks for the reply.

Can I just ask is it really expensive? My hair is pretty short (just touches my shoulders) so I don't know if that affects the price. Cut an colour usually costs 60 (student price) which is a bit of a push already. So if it's like 100+ I may have to leave it!

The price might depend on how much blonde you want, afaik. To be honest I'm not sure how much it'll be, you might have to go into your salon and ask them. Bring a picture with you to give them an idea.

I paid 140 for mine but that was in House of Colour in Dublin, which is pricey anyway, and I had a purple semi put over the blonde as well.

Your best bet is probably to just go in and ask :)
