Vents and insulation question

I'll have a few questions over coming weeks as Im re-doing the insulation.

This is probably a basic concept question that Im missing.

Had a recent heating survey and I was told to eliminate air gaps to maximise my insulation. Investigate using insulated plasterboard on external facing walls, and seal any gaps, use spotlight covers and a few other things to make the house as airtight as possible.

I have some rooms without ventilation. During the heating survey I was told I would need ventilation to release moisture as that will cause problems over time.

So while both make sense to me now Im thinking which is it, if I put in ventilation shafts is this not counteracting making the rooms airtight for insulation purposes?

The big difference in ventilation and a darught is control.
If you put in trickle vents into windows you can open and shut sections to suit or in very windy weather.

Vents also often have baffles fitted to let air in but not a blowing gale.

Personally I detest the idea of a four inch hole bored through the wall and so we have the trickle vents fitted to windows. Very convenient and controllable.

they put a 5" vent in my sitting room when i got the house upgraded ..regulations for the stove

and no way of closing it either..go figure

    same in kitchen.. regulations

i presume it's not safe to tamper with these?
