Have you ever been? Is it as good as Dublin?

Yes. I would say Dublin has more going for it but Belfast is worth the visit.

    Less skangers. Way better.

There's probably a Belfast section for this but yeah it's a great spot. Especially if you like paintings.

Why would I be asking people in Belfast have they been to Belfast?

Great, apart from the local accent, then again if you're comparing it to Dublin it's all the same in terms of awful accents.

Because they'd know more about it maybe?

It's much cheaper than Dublin anyway :)

And even though IMO it's blown all of out of proportion in Dublin - you are less likely to run in to any bother on a night out in Belfast. Maybe there is irony in there somewhere.

It's well known fact that the Belfast City forum is corrupt and biased to the hill. Best staying away from there.

Yep, been twice in the past 2 years.

Lovely city, has as much if not more to offer than Dublin I thought. The Titanic exhibit alone is just unreal.

Interesting. I had the recent misfortune to fly into a Belfast airport as a detour. I had to get a taxi to the train station. The taxi driver nearly lynched me when I offered him a 50 sterling note. He told me to go and get change and "how did I expect him to be carrying change of that".

He kept my bags, until I came back, but allowed me to take my kids with me to go to the bus station, beg for change, then bring his fare back to him, where he held our bags as security.

Belfast City to me is all red brick, dreary, dull, dirty. But woe betide you if you say a bad word about it to one of its natives.

50 pound notes are not at all popular - nowhere near as prevalent as a 50 euro note down here for example. If you ask for 50 quid from an ATM up north you will probably get two 20s and a 10 out of it.

I'm confused as to why you started this thread if you have already been to Belfast though. If you have already been then what is your opinion, is it as good as Dublin?

Looks like they didn't really visit - got a plane then straight to the train station.

I always feel like Belfast is too big or under populated.
I often feel it seems like a bit of a ghost town.

West Belfast - the markets, the Falls all those types of places are the best.

Lived there for a few years. Great place with a lot of character and I still love going back.

Lived there for 4 years as a sudent in the 'holylands' District.

Renshaws, the bot, the Duke, the empire, mansions, limelight, to name but a few of the fine watering holes it has to offer.

Where I'm from originally is 40 mins north of Belfast anyway, but it was like a different planet to me at first. (I'm a Culchie you see)

Have to echo awec though. Much cheaper than Dublin, and far less likely to encounter any hassle on a night out.

I should add that Belfast has close to zero junkies, they're certainly not evident anyway .
