Im really surprised rossom hasn't flagged up Benandonner yet. He did so lto i believe.
    6.20 Wolverhampton
Anyway I really think tomorrow will be a win for him he is down at a ridiculous mark now and this is an incredibly poor event. 5/1 seems fair

Yeah if he's ever going to win it's going to be today. Should definitely prefer carrying top weight as opposed to bottom LTO. Hoping he drifts a bit before backing him.

Haha no bets for me Liam. Save your money for one of the bets of the year at Dundalk Friday

Speaking of Dundalk I have been waiting for one to run for a while now that goes in a maiden tomorrow. Looking at the entries though the price will be shocking.

I was very impressed with Hawk High at Aintree and I think he is a very fair price to follow up at Sedgefield today.

A lot of big priced winners but it takes a well handicapped horse to win. The handicapper can be very generous there, one ill back tomorrow was beaten under two lengths last time but is dropped five pounds for it. Seems very generous

On figures released for 2012 Dundalk was the most successful track in Ireland. The problem with the bookies is a huge problem because pre-opening Greyhound bookmakers were offered the original slots. The larger firms and big indo layers decided not to avail of pitches. As most meetings are held at night the crowd never venture outside even as far as the parade ring hence the poor atmosphere.Friday night is a great night out with the dogs starting just after the last race.Approx six greyhound bookies set up behind the main bar under the stand.

Backing horses in Dundalk or anywhere in Ireland in a handicap is a short cut to the poor house.

Irish handicaps have been my main money spinner the last 18 moths. You just need to be careful

I think the original track layers were asked for a hefty fee and felt aggrieved as they had originally paid for their pitches at the old track before it closed. So they boycotted it.On the figures I assume you are referring to revenue and not the turnstiles, as most of their revenue is television money. Its a good slot on Friday nite.

Anne Stokell has rode the exact same amount of winners over the last ten years at Southwell as K.Fallon.

As Dundalk is a joint venture between IGB/Turf Club all arrangements from old track became null/void as bookmakers did not pay for the years the old track was closed. With a deal been struck that a % of bookmakers be from the Greyhound scene and they were allowed to pick their stand this along with the cost to major players is why the betting ring is very poor. The success of Dundalk is due to the 8k per meeting from sky and the wonderful marketing that has seen a lot of sponsorship. Its take from the Turf Club with regards to funding is the lowest in the country by some distance. If for example you compare Navan which in 2012 generated 1% of sponsorship and required substantial investment from the Turf Club and EBF to run their meetings.

I,m not one for defending bookmakers but since they hadn,t relinquished their pitches at the old track and could hardly have been expected to pay during the years the track was closed, its reasonable that they refused to be ripped off for a large sign on fee to regain what they had already paid for. The greyhound bookies moved from the old greyhound stadium and were totally new to the place. As it is now a tenner bet could affect the SP.I,ve seen a 300 bet on a 5/1 shot refused by a bookie.Gutless muppets all of them.As for Navan, if I had the choice of a days racing from now to next march at either Dundalk or Navan, I know where I and most others in their right mind would go, despite having to venture into enemy country in MEATH.

Shamiana 16/1 looks big as he looks very well treated, back in distance and well boxed.32lb lower than turf rating.

I can't stand the racing personally, whereas a friend of mine bets in nothing but AW racing. The horses to watch out for are the non trier's that are slipping down the ratings...

you'ld want to be very naieve not to think that Friday Nights are set up for the off-course layers , every thing fits in to place , races run on sand , a whole bunch of handicaps and the've got the whole day to sniff out any off-course gamble , not to mention Friday is pay day for most and also alehouse evening , the perfect combination to catch the mug punters !!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,172 ✭✭✭NaiveMelodies

Love having a couple of bets in Dundalk on a quiet Friday night..
Obviously the racing is dog rough for the most part ( there is a couple of decent listed races tbf.)

Kemptons my fav all weather track, whatever it is about the place, whether it be camera angle or the split, always seems to lend itself to a fast finish, horses seem to come from nowhere.

Hate Lingfield and Southwell with a passion.

Yeah, agree with that. Never bet there myself but recent form seems to not have the same relevance as at other courses. I also know people who do 90% of their betting there - it seems like a specialist punters course and if you don't know the lay of the land, you have no chance of winning.
