Anyone Got Any Experience With These Boots?

As a rule of thumb, desert boots are not normally waterproof and are designed for heat dissipation, with light weight and high air flow

So those boots would suit hot / dry conditions and not the wet unfortunately

    Hope this helps :)

If you can stretch to €100, I'd recommend the zipless Magnum Cobra 8.0 (zip version is not waterproof, and is €115). Wearing a pair at the moment, and find them grand. They're waterproof, and find they breath okay so far. Here's a review (not mine) that I found handy.

/edit; they're black. Are you looking specially for desert colour?

    Thanks guys.

He wants a tan pair, to go with the loadout he's planning on putting together - the ubiquitous generic US MultiCam soldier. TBH, it's a great looking loadout, so I'd like him to be happy with it.

My Salomon Quest GTX are a fabric boot, but obviously with a Gore-Tex liner they're completely waterproof, but they're no use to him as they're grey.

If he was finished growing (he's 13) I'd probably hold out to get him a proper waterproof boot, but my size 10 Chiruca Canadas fit him now, and he was using my old Altezza size 9s only four months ago, so I'm guessing a €100+ pair of boots might only fit him for maybe another 6 months or so...

I see plenty of MultiCam loadouts where they use a tan coloured boot - I imagine they're all one of the more expensive models.

I didn't think those €50 ones from AirsoftEire would be waterproof. I'll throw them an email.

FWIW, The Chiruca Canada is a truly superb boot. It's got a Gore-Tex liner, and the tongue gusset goes right to the top of the boot, which is higher than most typical hiking boots. This means the boot is completely waterproof even in water to maybe 6" deep. They're really comfy too, with a slightly wider foot than other European boots. The Vibram sole grips great on any surface, and has lasted me over 5 years of regular - if not hard - use.

When I replace mine (or hand them down to my son), I'll replace them with a pair of Husky Highs - same boot but with an even higher ankle.

Hey you could try www.polimil.co.uk. I got a pair of Bates boots they are waterproof, high ankle, good all round grip, great foot support and very light for 85 delivered to the door 4-5 years ago. Still going strong with regurlar usage. Mine are black but I think they are doing a tan/sand colour now.
On a different note you can get multicam boots but tan can give more variety to loadouts if he decides to change a big down the line

If you can pick up a pair of Altberg Defenders, brown; they're rather good. You'll (only) pick them up second hand for cheap-enough; I got two pairs recently in very good condition for £40 each. They're sturdy without being lead bricks on your feet, and whilst they're not gortex, they are water repellant up to a degree but more designed to be worn with sealskinz socks if you're expecting to get very soggy.

AirsoftEire came back saying those ones aren't waterproof, as expected.

    Alt-Berg make some great boots.

I hit my local shooting/hunting place today. They have a pair of Le Chameau Arran GTX boots there. Awesome boots, but €310!

Been looking around on the www, seems that a tan/beige boot that's waterproof is either rare or expensive. I suspect he's going to have to compromise his boot choice, dictated by cost/waterproofing. He accepts that a boot that's not waterproof is a non-runner for Ireland, so I'll do some more looking for a reasonably-priced brown waterproof boot, even if it's not ideal for his MultiCam plans.

    Thanks again all.

Yera bollox to it, I bought a pair of Goliath NATO issued desert boots, I put rain and oil protector on them prior to a game, and clean them thoroughly a day after a skirimish and the boots are still in excellent condition a year on with dirt up to my knees most times. If you play in LAC you will know how muddy that place is after a blast of rain.

The lads are right, generally the water proof dessert boots can be a fortune, so its either shell out a lot for a pair of boots your kid will inevitably grow out of unless you buy them 2 sizes too big, or bring some spare socks, maintain your boots by treating them and cleaning (same as an aeg and other equipment) and he will be fine. Not the nicest feeling in the world but I find it tolerable.

Either that or find some tactical wellies :), that will really make his loadout look the sheeeit. :) No offence to people who wear wellies skirmishing as I have seen this, but I could not bring myself to wear them......
