Im re-insulating my attic. I have 18 LED spots in several rooms. Guy told me to put bulb heat diffusers over them when re-insulating, use something like a terracotta plant pot.

first of all Ive never heard of bulb heat diffusers, what are they for and can someone recommend me something simple other than me buying 18 plant pots and are they even necessary?

I cant find much on the ould google about them, maybe my search terms are wrong

ok, thanks, found all the info I need on these. I can either pay 9e a pop which is about as cheap as they come
    or use plantpots and seal
or construct my own out of plaster board and seal that
or use an offcut of a pvc pipe which I luckily enough have a big load of out the back for a DIy project that never took off and will now be diverted, this will be my first port of call.

The problem with the pipe is it won't solve the issue of air flow through the fitting.

I was going to mastic the ceiling side with a groove for the cable and foam pack the other end. The earthwool insulation I was looking at can then run right up them. Guess Im looking at 3-4 hours work before I start running down the insulation.

They're 4w LED bulbs so Im not worried about over heating. If any of them blow, which I doubt they will, I got them from china at under 3e each, click of a button.

Any risk of a halogen lamp being fitted in the future?

    none whatsoever. :)

I LED'd the ****e out of the house over last 2 years through the likes of tmart.com and buyincoins.com.

    All LED spots.

10w and 20w LED flood lights outside.

Retro fitted LEDs in existing lamps and ceiling fittings. Sold off the ones that werent suitable either through underpowered or wrong light colour, got replacements at < 5 euro. Lifetime stuff.

Heat emissions are near zero although I know exist at some level. Its the air tight gaps I want to eliminate here.
