Hard drive(S!)

    Bit of an issue here.

Some data recovery not going so well.

Basically. I think the hard drive I have data on is screwed, its firing up and just making a weird noise.

Now earlier on I managed to get it too boot to the Windows screen but the blue screen of death then it just restarted it keep repeating this step over and over. (Due to the hard drive been from an Intel machine and the new machine been AMD) So I decided to download Windows XP to do a clean install and try and recover the data but the drive now won't boot up at all so it won't show in the BIOS. I have an external case and it won't show up in that either.

Anyway I think all my messing around with it has finished it off it won't boot to Windows at all and sounds fairly funky when you power it up sounds like it's a fail safe to stop it damaging itself anymore.

My question if I get the exact same hard drive from Amazon can I move the disc over to the new drive and recover my data? Its a Western Digital. Model number; WD3200BEVT.

So may plan is basically to buy a new drive. Swap over the PCB boards on top see if that boots it up, failing that swapping over the disc the data is stored on.

Been honest, there's just a music collection on the HD but it's really just annoying me at this stage the fact that I cannot just access the files !

    Any suggestions on the above?

Sounds similar to a problem I had recently. The disc inside would not spin up,it was jammed,I put the complete drive into two ziplock bags and left it in the freezer for 5-6 hours. After taking it out it was still the same,LED lit up as before, but it wouldn't spin up,I was at a loss and (out of frustration really:o), I gave the disc a firm jab with my finger....and problem solved!!The movement helped to loosen the platter and I recovered my files.I have since powered it down and back up with no problems.

I would advise you to try the a jab or two before sticking it in the freezer though as this is a last resort and could possibly make it worse.

Edit:Another option would be to create a bootable CD of a linux distro, such as Linux Mint(http://www.linuxmint.com/download.php).
Launch this and see if you can access the files this way.

You may need this to burn the ISO image file:http://www.freeisoburner.com/
