Brasso metal polish but that's more for gleaming chrome and such.
If it's the engine degrease it properly and power wash off. Then look into Engine Detailing.

    DIY > Detailing.

Can you post pictures so that we can see what you're dealing with.

Would the they have been shiny when they were new or were they normal nuts and bolts?

Start with some degreaser and a brush to agitate. They'll be clean after that and then the next steps can be determined.

If they have any rust/corrosion on them I would advise you to buy a 'dip' type rust removal product. Bilt-Hamber deox c or there is another product available called genolite.

Both products dilute with water into a drum. The leave your bolts nuts and parts in overnight and when you return your bits will be like new :)

As mentioned above, a degreaser to get bits clean first. If not happy with the results, fine grade steel wool and a metal polish, if the bits have to stay in place
