Got this deal also last year but I'd highly recommend waiting until well into December as the tree was a crispy twig by the new year as I got it on 8th. Dec.
Will be up again in a few weeks to get mine as this has to be one of the best deals around.

I didn't have any of that
had one of them last year, and the year before
on the 8th/9th of December both times
kept it in a watered base with a drop of bleach and not a needle fell until the time I removed it
if you screw a cheap leg with no water there is no tree that can cope with that...

also place an open jar or bottle of water on the ground near a radiator if the tree will be near a radiator , the water vapor and moisture in the air gets sucked in by the tree and the tree stays fresher for longer .

I can't remember how early we got our tree last year, but we had no issues with it shedding. It was kept with the base in water, and on the far side of the room from the radiator.

b & q , any good garden store or lidl they have a spring loaded tree clamp in them to hold the tree uprite in place and a water level indicator to show you when the water level is getting low . it will hold a tree up to 5.5 inches in diameter at the base and it costs about 20 quid in a garden store or b & q

Most hardware stores do them, woodies certainly do. They are not "a bucket" but rather a special tree stand that holds water in the base which you put the tree into and hold it in place with three bolts that screw in from the side of the stand, thus keeping the tree upright & in place.......... or you could buy a bucket :-)

I sent them a mail during the week asking would they have any over 5ft and they replied that they would be getting in a range of different sizes but they didn't mention any specifics.

Got mine there last year and it was easily 6ft. Very happy with it and will be there again this year . I was there on the first day last year.

Just got a 6 and half foot beast in Ikea, may have trouble fitting in our place, ha.
Stands were €20 in ikea. Ended up getting a heavy earthen pot at home and stuffing rocks around the tree, works perfect.
Lots of smaller trees there too.

Anybody knows if this is still ongoing? Wont be able to get to ikea before the weekend...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 52 ✭✭generalbison

The missus picked one up for us yesterday morning no bother and got the voucher. Says it runs until the 22nd.

Really nice tree I have to say, a shade over 6 foot and very "full figured". Paid more for a worse tree last year from a place around the corner.

It could get very busy in IKEA between Jan 20th - Feb 9th, when those vouchers are actually usable

Anyone any photos of the trees? Would like to maybe go sat morning and get one. 30 is a good price if they are nice trees.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 52 ✭✭generalbison

Sure here's ours after decorating (might get a few more lights mind you):

I questioned where they are from as the care info for the tree was in German. But apparently because the trees are exported to Germany, but are irish. But imagine they will tell the tree is from Wicklow even through its from Bavaria.

They weren't shifting many at €20 I'd say

Nope, apparently they're not Irish. Depending on what news report you heard or read this morning, they're either from Scotland or Denmark.

Could someone who has bought this years tree tell us if it has any decent smell of pine from it please?

Myself and a couple of others i know who bought it last year were disappointed as it had no smell!

    Thanks in advance

not sure where they're from, but I got one last year and there was real snow on it when it came out of the container!
going to get one again, but would recommend getting the water stand, as it'll (hopefully) stop it drying out and shedding the needles.

Ikea have been selling them since day one at €9 if you are a family member of €15 if not. They were never €20.

Dont forget to use your €20 vouchers!
