How do I find a teaching placement?

    Hi,

I thought that I only applied for my teaching placement once I was offered a place but it seems that DCU needs you to have it before applying.

I can not go to my own school as I currently work in the area in a fast food place and plan to stay there during the program.

How would I approach potential schools? The deadline is December 6th.

Would it be too unprofessional for me to be working in a fast food place close to the school I do my placement in?

Do you think it would cause too much trouble for me?

I imagine it wouldn't cause too many problems but it would be a bit of a risk. You might get students talking behind your back a bit but if you do a good job of your actual teaching then they'll probably just pass the occasional comment while they get on with their work.

Unless it's a fairly rough school with discipline issues in which case you'd be best to avoid it. I would think most 'average' schools would be find though.

Personally I wouldn't. It can be difficult to get control etc at the start qualified or not. More difficult not yet qualified obviously. I think you would be getting comments left right and centre undermining your authority. That would have been the case in any school I've been in. They would see you as not a real teacher etc.

If you can go further away I would. If not there isn't much you can do about it

I don't think there's anything at all unprofessional about it and it's certainly not an uncommon occurrence with low hours contracts the norm these days. Several teachers in my school work in supermarkets and pubs in the area.

It may come up with students though so it will be up to you to decide whether you want that extra hassle. Personally I'd be more concerned about hassle from students about school in the part time job rather than hassle in school about the part time job.
