I'm looking to pick up a couple of wedges looking at anything between a 54 - 60 degree. Any recommendations on type to buy and good stockists? The prices being quoted seem fairly steep to me, dunno if there are good bargains on any sites or in shops.

I'm 11 handicapper. Thanks in advance!

Try somewhere like McGuirks or Halpenny, they often have last year's models on discount.

Can't really go wrong with Titleist Vokey, Callaway, Cleveland or Mizuno. They're all excellent but each one is slightly different to the next. It mostly depends on how they look to you and then go with your choice for loft/bounce.

McGuirks quoted me 115 euro for a Cobra Trusty Rusty wedge and I can buy two of them from Direct-Golf.co.uk delivered for 87 pounds sterling which equates to around 108 euros.

And McGuirks have a banner up saying "WE WILL NOT BE BEATEN ON PRICE"

Did you tell them about your online find? In my experience they will match your online price (dodgy fake sites excepted) with the delivery added.

Got two of these in 52 and 56 a couple of months ago. Love them. Nice shaft and grip for a budget club. Milled face generates lots of spin but chafes the ball a bit. Club head a little on the small side. Numbers on sole could be better defined.

Looking at the Cobra Trusty Rusty or the Callway Forged Wedges (Chrome or Copper) at the moment.

I have the callaway forged wedge in a 60 degree. Find it great very versatile and great for flop shots if you are brave enough. They often end in disaster tho. I got mine at mcguirks for 60 euro I think!

I don't see these listed on Mcguirk's website.

Anyone know if they sell them at all?

I've definitely bought 2 or 3 of the MP T4 wedges in McGuirks over the last 18 months or so. No idea if they have any currently in stock.....

How do you know what degree wedge you need or what amount of bounce you want? I have a PW & SW as a set of irons but dont like the SW at all. Have a 60' vokey but only use that for certain shots

Conventional way is to see how far you hit your most lofted wedge, then see how far you hit your PW, look at the gap and decide how many other clubs you want to fill that gap.

Bounce is a bit personal to everyone, it depends on whether you take big divots, shallow ones, play on hard ground or soft boggy ground. Do you like to open the face of the wedge or do yu play every shot with a square blade ? Again, convention (if you carry a lob wedge) would be to have a SW with standard-ish bounce, say 11, 12 or 13 degrees (which will help out of fluffy sand and soft ground) and your lob wedge with less, maybe 7 degrees for those tighter lies.
Its personal preference though to be honest, Roger Cleveland says bounce is your friend (I agree with him), other disagree to varying extents.

    Try; http://www.nordicagolf.co.uk/golfclubs/dynacraft-dual-milled-cnc-forged.html
I'm looking at a nice forged wedge that feels as soft as butter.
I just found out that my vokeys are all cast clubs who'd have tunk it.
A good club fitter would point you in the right direction some amazing Jap stuff available too.

    Lads - I think I'm in love - new SM5 vokey out.

Would think of a black one for a change - but imagine sand would make it look in bits after a while. Anybody ever have a black wedge - what is the idea - just look ?

I'm on the phone so I can't link a photo but the next money I spend on wedges will be on the vokey model called tvd. They are the dogs'
They were special order afaik this year and I'd never have seen them but I saw these gorgeous looking wedges in one if the winners bags things and had to google them.

I'm kinda weird about golf clubs and if I like the look of a wedge that would known me be enough I'd play them happily.

My S/W is sort of gone now - it is only 2 years old - but hit it a good bit - all bunkers and all shots from 105 in.

Is that about right for a wedge used that much.

How often do regular golfers here change wedges ?

Noticed when I hit a few of the new wedge - you could see the ball mark - slightly ripping even a range ball.

They make mince meat of soft balls like Prov 1s

have 2 wedges. A vokey 54• and a Cleveland 60• , both were second hand when i bought them. I have had the vokey about 8 years now and the Cleveland 10 years. I'm probably due a change :)

Depends on the wedge and how much its been used, but I'd say 2 years is pretty good for "normal" use. I've found, for me, that forged wedges (Callaway & Mizuno) wear much quicker than cast ones (Vokeys). I'll also get flamed for saying this, but I've never got the hype around Vokeys, they're not bad, but I never ever feel like I want to keep one. IMHO they're not a patch on Callaway's old X Forged (or even better, the older X-Tour) or current Mack Daddy 2, or Mizuno's MP T4. But hey, everyone's different.

Bunker shots will really do the job on your grooves though, might be an idea to keep an older (if its the same or similar) wedge for bunker practice.

Love the look of those TVD's m r c, have been on the look out for wedges for a while now, window shopping mostly, currently have the a Vokey 48* and Mizuno MP T10's a 54* and a 64* :D

Haven't found a wedge that looks better than the Mizuno's....the TVD comes close

And just what in the name of all that's good use is a 64 degree ??:) (only kidding with ya !)

MP T4 is nicer than the T10, and a lot easier to use IMO, although the sole on the 56 is a smidge too wide towards the heel.

The TVDs, are they the ones that are forged and only available in Japan ?

Greenside bunkers and the odd shot around the green where it's really needed. Absolutely love hitting it (more than half the battle) and I would say that contrary to the rational thinking, it works very well for me.
Have never hit a full shot with it and wouldn't dream of doing so.

Really don't like the T4's I have to say (when comparing to the T10's), not a fan of that black line they put on them. Just think the T10's are cleaner looking and a bit like m r c, I'll be swayed by the looks (more than I probably should).
