Getting best price on oil

    Hey all,
Just curious as to how to go about getting best price/deal on home heating oil.

We usually go with the same local oil company and order in advance in a one-off big order (1000 euro or so) but they don't give any incentive or freebie, etc. despite us ordering in bigger orders, making it less deliveries for them to do to our home.

Are there companies in general who give you something off if you buy in a big order?
What price should I expect to pay? Is it still done per litre for home oil?

Use the link above and ask your supplier to match the lowest price. If they don't, keep trying other suppliers. Dont leave it until the last minute so that you give yourself and supplier time. When negotiating, tell them you can wait a few days until they have other deliveries in your area. That will strengthen your bargaining position. And remember that 1000 Litre+ deliveries will be cheapest prices per litre.

Thanks Wearb. Generally speaking, how far distance wise will an oil company deliver to? Our order is going to be over 1000 litres.

It will vary with population density. A lot of companies would have lorries spread over a wide area. I suppose in the country it would be a 40 or 50Km radius from base, but that could vary a lot from company to company. Spend an half hour on the phone getting a good price. The time will more than pay for itself.
