Long story short, the car has been booked for VRT in December. It's past the 30-days (totally my partner's fault, but can't be undone now so onwards...). I read that there can be an extra fee if the car has not been VRT'ed within 30 days of purchase, and I was wondering if anyone knows roughly how much it would be? We've calculated VRT to be roughly 500 bucks so we want to make sure we don't get a nasty surprise with an extra fee when we go in.

Just tell them you have only just bought it from someone else who imported it I dont think its really a problem anyway.

But we bought direct from a N.I dealer. It asks for proof of purchase as one of the documents to bring along, and the only proof we have is the invoice from the dealer himself, I can't really prove I bought it off someone else who imported it when I did not. Not sure I'd be happy lying to them about it either.

Sorry took it up wrong the vrt will be calculated on the day the car was brought in and not on the day you present the car so there is no way of knowing but if the vrt is so low it probobly wont make much differance.

It's a very small car and only had 8k miles on it when we bought it. We purchased in September (after the 16th but before October definitely), and December 7th was the closest date we could get online.

Was just hoping it wouldn't be something insane like another €500 or such, we'd not have that and would obviously not be able to VRT the car

0.1% of the VRT owed for every day over.
So €500 VRT for 30 days is €15 extra

But the penalty will only be applied when the penalty amount goes over €50, so you shouldn't have any penalty... :)

Lesson learned all the same! We make regular hospital trips and my partner drives to work, so it will be a relief to have the car above board! I really dont know how people dodge stuff like that, my heart is in my chest every time someone flashes at me and we've only driven it two or three times!
