Disposing of old computer - How?

I have an old (12 yo, or so) desktop computer that I haven't used in yonks and ran at snail's pace when I did use it. Basically, I want rid of it.

Is it likely to be worth anything, or is it just scrap?

What about charity: Is there any charity that refurbs old PCs to send to the third world or anything?

And before I get rid of it (by whatever method) do I need to remove my details from it? How would I do that?

Are you in Dublin? Bring it into Camara in Thomas St. They recycle them and send them to the developing world.

Not worth anything significant. You can either remove the hard disk and smash it with a hammer, or use http://www.dban.org/download to securely wipe it, if there's any sensitive data on it. Your local authority should have a facility for recycling it, possibly free.
