Hi I got a Mercedes E class current model and the upholstery material on the Pillar on the left of drivers door is showing wear and the under black rubber is showing through . When I got the car it was perfect , but after driving the car for less then 4 month (5000klm) the upholstery on the drivers pillar is wearing . Dealer say that it is normal wear and tear . Anybody else out there with this problem as it looks terrible as upholstery in light in colour
    Thanks

Tbh would need to see what you are talking about. Any pictures ?

I cant picture how the pillar would wear, what is rubbing off it to wear it down ?

Left of the drivers door? The A pillar?
    Pics would definitely help.

Not calling you fat op but if you or the previous owner were a large build, you would likely be rubbing of this area when getting in and out of the car.
Why not order a new trim piece from the dealer?
What kind of mileage had the car done?

    Is the belt rubbing it?

Sorry no picture , I.ll find out how to install. It's the material at the left of the drivers door on the door pillar. Tall drivers would have the seat pushed back so on entering the car the Pillar would be in front of the back of the seat.So the tall drivers back might rub against the material on the pillar. Average / smaller drivers would have the seat forward when getting into the car and the seat back would be in front of the pillar.

Mickdw , Yes one could order a new upholstery material but the last one was showing wear in less then 4 months last time( under rubber showing through). Even if the back of a jacket is rubbing off the pillar you would not expect to have the upholstery material to wear in less then 4 months .

How old is the car though?
Chances are that the majority of the wear was there before you bought it but not so visible.
Id just buy a new panel and clip it on. How sure are you of the history of the car?
It is unusual for a mercedes interior to show wear like that.

Im no small driver and ive never had the pillar in front of me to that extent. that would mean the seatbelt would be ahead of the shoulder, no?

Either way the wear sounds abnormal would still need to see pics of it.

best bet is replace, as id say you would be hard pressed to have a dealer replace it based on abnormal conditions.

No seatbelt wouldn't be ahead of shoulder. If pillar was 50mm ahead of seat back, belt fixing point would still be behind the line of the seat as it is fixed to Centre of pillar, not leading edge. Additionally you have the depth of the persons torso on the seat so belt would still be coming from well behind driver.
I guess it depends what you are used to but I tend to find A4 / passat etc very tight to the point that the pillar is very much in the way. It's only because I'm used to coupes for a good few years and the pillar is very much out of the way in coupes given the huge front door.
