Late 2009 iMac won't boot

    Hi all,

I'm running OS X Mavericks. I tried to install Windows 7 on my machine using Boot Camp Assistant. I initially had the installation files mounted from a disk image. Then when my iMac goes to reboot, it looks for a bootable disk and will not boot to anything without this. I copied the Windows 7 installation files onto a USB and tried to boot from this, but all I got was a blinking cursor. I have no other USB devices inserted apart from the one with the installation files.

I've tried holding down the option key at startup after the chime, as well as trying cmd and R, but my Mac does not seem to be responding to my bluetooth wireless keyboard (which has fully charged batteries).

As luck would have it, just before I did any of this I did a Time Machine backup. If I can source the original installation disk that came with my iMac, would that be recognised as a bootable disk and bring me to the Recovery menu? If not, are there any other options?

    Thanks in advance!

I'd check the hard disk in the Disk Utility app on the install disk for errors. It could be indicative of a failing hard drive. May be no harm trying another wired USB keyboard incase that's causing the issue on startup

Just an update - I bought a crappy wired keyboard and mouse for a tenner and was able to press the options key to let me choose my startup disk. Easy as that! Nice to have them too when the batteries for the apple keyboard and mouse are recharging :)
