Are Ireland bottlers?

There's no doubting Irelands performance today was courageous brave and plenty more superlatives. However it is not the first time nor do I believe it is the last that Ireland grasped defeat from the jaws of victory. There are countless examples of this brilliant performance followed by a victory - All Blacks last year , France countless times down the years. I think one has to question Ireland's bottle when it comes down to it. They outperform teams but just stand off a bit too much, give away a stupid penalty, miss a crucial kick or concede a late try. Of course these sort of things happen but not this often to one team for it to be considered a coincidence. What is your opinion are this team despite being probably the best generation we've ever had a team that cracks when put under pressure such as today?

They didn't bottle it, they just ran out of steam.

I don't think we cracked under the pressure so much as ran out of steam after 60 mins.

Jesus this is some painful nonsense

Why not talk about rugby rather than "bottle"

We lost it because we ran out of steam against the best attacking side in the world, not ****ing bottle

So? You asked. Not agreeing with what happened won't change what happened.

What terrible sh*t. Ok let's assume you know nothing about rugby. Consider an epic boxing match - the underdog given a chance by nobody and is hanging in 'til the last round. Edging it on points. But only by a whisker. But the Champion has been looking for the knock out blow and threw complete class and skill land an amazing box and the fight is over just before the bell rings.

We were 15 seconds away from beating the best team on the planet, who won the game with some fantastic handling, ball retention and cutting edge play. So no, we are not bottlers. Stupid thread.

So Jonny Sexton missed two kicks because he ran out of steam. Connor Murray kicked the ball away because he ran out of steam. They gave away a stupid penalty with 30 seconds left because they ran out of steam. It seems to happen an awful lot to this Irish side. I've no doubt Carter would have knocked those kicks over. Will Genia wouldn't have kicked the ball away. Maybe their fitness and conditioning should be questioned. A team that has played non stop for the last while manage to stay fitter than a team that should be fresh.
