I'm buying a new van in the next few weeks and a friend reckons that because DOE test is out on it for over a year that when I test it and it passes I will only get a cert for one months and will have to test it again after that.

He said it's the new DOE test rules. Is this true?

The most you can get in this case is 6 months. depending on when the test was due.

It's back dated since the cvrt came in so if the van is out of test 6 months you get a 6 month test when it passes. If its out 9 months you get 3 months etc.

Same as nct you will get as many months as left in the year from when it should have been done.

What happens if the van was declared off the road ???

IF you are in a new year you will get how many months left from when it was first registered .IE if it was first reg. in jan & you test in feb you get 11 months.

They only go by the expiry date of the last test... whether it was declared off the road or not makes no difference to them and will not be taken into account for the test....
declaring it off the road is only for tax purposes.....

    Hi all
I am in the same boat , as Galwaydude and hoping that someone has an answer,
I just bought a jeep that is out of doe for over a year
What are they going to do ,test it twice in the same day
Once for the year gone and backdated and once for the upcoming year?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 899 ✭✭✭doctorchopper

If you just bought it you will only have to back date test and tax to the day you purchased it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 373 ✭✭mufflets2

I know that applies to tax but are you certain that it applies to doe as we'll,
    Be great if it does,

    All advice welcome

My apologies if I've hijacked a post

Tax goes to when you bought it but DOE is now the same as NCT and is with the van not the owner hence all the cheap vans and jeeps on Done Deal you could buy a an with no DOE for 2000 euro DOE it and have to DOE it again 3 months later

So what do they do if the vehicle is out of doe for over a year, test it twice?

I mean if it's out 10 months you get 2 month test right? so what if it's out 14 months?

I bought a jeep out 12 months and was given 3 months of DOE

tested a yolk there Thursday, 6 fooking months!! does not matter if You only bought the Vehicle From RSA

    Ref; S.I. No. 347 of 2013
Test due dates - late testing
    9. (1) Where a CVR vehicle is submitted for CVR testing on a testing date more than one year after a test due date the next test due date in respect of that vehicle (in addition to the test due dates
specified in Regulation 6,7 or 8 as the case may be) shall be
    (a) the date falling 6 months after the testing date, or
    (b) the next test due date under Regulation 6, Whichever is the earlier

Shower of money grabbing fookers!! and the price increase too €111.16

It is not a price increase the test is still the same price. The extra is a levy to fund the RSA .
