I installed one recently and its smoking terribly when i open the door to refuel. Also there appears to be a build up of tar/cresote inside the stove.

wet wood is the cause of the discolouration I would imagine.

smoke coming out is more than likely because you have the air valve closed too far, open it fully before you open the door.

to help with the build up of creasote, get your chimney cleaned before it goes on fire then make sure that you dont burn wet wood and give your fire a while of blast heat every now and then to clean the glass.
