Album of the Year Nominations 2013

It's around that time of year where we consider the best releases of 2013. There have been plenty of excellent releases this year so there shouldn't be any lack of contributions.

With the good Lord and Doctor's blessing of course I suggest we keep the nominations to cover the gamut of Rock & Metal as opposed to doing separate categories for each subgenre as last year didn't garner a huge amount of participation as there was too many categories IMO thus the voting process became convoluted.

So go ahead and nominate your favourite albums of the year and at the appropriate time the Mods or myself will announce the winners. (I'm thinking a Top 10 list). If anybody has any opinions, feel free to express them or go ahead and make any suggestions you may have.

*Try keep your nominations to around 5 releases this year for the interest of quality. ;)

So many quality releases this year, though my first choice is Steven Wilson - The Raven that Refused to Sing

    I will also nominate
Ayreon - The Theory of Everything
    Pelican - Forever Becoming
    Russian Circles - Memorial
    ASG - Blood Drive

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

How about doing the same as i do in the gig of the year thread? Take all nominations, then the Top 10 go into a poll in a separate thread, with 1 vote per user, has worked fine for gig of the year for last 3yrs

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,150 ✭✭✭Passenger

Superb list ScienceNerd. I'm sure I'll think of other releases but off the top of my head my nominations are:

Steven Wilson - The Raven That Refused to Sing
    James Labrie - Impermeable Resonance
Ayreon - The Theory of Everything
    Dark Tranquillity - Construct
    Ihsahn - Das Seelenbrechen

Well that's what we're doing. Everybody nominates their top 5 albums and then the most nominated albums at the end are compiled in the seperate Album of the Year thread.

    Disappointing year for albums imo.

Highlight for me has been Everblack by The Black Dahlia Murder.

Havnt had a chance to listen to the new Deicide one yet but I have high hopes for it.

    Mourning Beloveth - Formless

Altar of Plagues - Teethed Glory and Injury

2 massive albums from 2 Irish bands, nothing else came close this year for me. Pity these acts are sometimes ignored on this forum and by the Irish public. Just a cursory look at some of the albums mentioned here already pale against these releases.

Surprised it hasn't been mentioned in more lists but for me it's Carcass 'Surgical Steel'. An absolute masterpiece.

In no particular order, and no doubt I will be kicking myself for leaving something good out......

Five Finger Death Punch - The Wrong Side of Heaven and the Righteous Side of Hell, Volume 1

Steven Wilson - The Raven That Refused to Sing

    Bad Religion - True North

    Clutch - Earth Rocker

    Ancient Wisdom - Deathlike

    Karnivool - Asymmetry

    Pelican - Forever Becoming

    Soil - Whole

    TRC - Nation

    Protest The Hero - Volition

We As Human - We As Human

Have ended up leaving out a lot of other albums (has actually been a pretty busy year in terms of good releases although not a good year for blow everything away type releases imo) and am struggling to turn the above list into a top five.

Been listening to Suffocation's fantastic "Pinnacle of Bedlam" all weekend and it deserves to be considered. Along with Dying Fetus, imo the finest death metal band plying their trade at the moment.
