    Hi All,

I'm looking to buy an A4 Tdi 07 or 08 or 09 car from the UK depending on what i find for my budget.
Irish Mototr tax changed on 1st July 2008 from a cc based system to the current CO 2 based system.
If I mport a car now which was first registered in the UK sometime between Jan '08 and june 30 '08 what motor tax rate will the car be put in ,cc based or co 2 based ?
I'm wondering because there was the option when registering a new car in Ireland from Jan 08 to June 08 to choose cc or co 2 with regards to motor tax and I'm wondering if that option is still available for cars first registerd in the uk between those dates?
Any help appreciated as it makes quite a bit of difference to annual road tax and might make me choose buying a late 08 thats 1k more expensive than an early 08 because at the end of three years the 1k would be clawed back in annual motor tax saving.

    Cheers.

A cars tax rate in 2008 will go by whichever is cheaper, whether that is cc or Co2 based.

I thought you could only choose the system for the first six months of 2008?

To my knowledge all imports first registered in 2008 or newer will go on the co2 tax system.
