Horizon box netoworking and NAS

    Hi there

I hope this might be an easy answer and I am just not seeing it right

I got horizon yesterday. With only only 4 Ethernet ports on the box, I had to link it into my router to spread the connection around the house. I don't use wireless, only wired. The router has a Buffalo Lyncstation NAS attached to it. When I log into the router, it sees the NAS no problem. However, when I try and use my network settings on the Horizon box, it won't discover an existing network, and doesn't seem to do anything when I try to setup a new home network.

The Lyncstation has DNLA enabled, so I was just hoping the media player in the Horizon box would discover the media folder and allow me to play it.

Too omptomistic? Schoolboy errors? Any idea what I need to do to get my Horizon box to see my NAS? Will it only work with this twonky crap installed (which I apparently can't install on the NAS?)

    Cheers for any help.
    B

Its probably a IP conflict, Chances are your Router is setup as a DHCP server running a 192.168.0.x or 192.168.1.x address range.

The horizon box is also running a DHCP server but it uses a different address range then normal, 192.168.192.x

Disable DHCP on your netgear and make sure all your devices have a 192.168.192.x address.

Did that, you were spot on. However, the horizon box didnt seem to be assigning IP addresses - everything just seemed to retain the IP addresses I had when i turned tge router dhcp server "off". Things were getting ugly, so i turbed off dchp on horizon and back on on the router. Disaster, no internet and worse, couldnt even access 192.168.192.1 anymore. Turbed dchp back on through the telly (create new network) but now the horizon still wont assign IP addresses.

IF i factory reset will it work - or is that a whole other world of pain?

On Horizon You need to do create network, which you did correctly. This puts it back in "gateway" mode.

Reboot any other network devices and they should pick up the DHCP from horizon.

Devices have TTL (Time to live) on them on their DHCP leases so they wont automatically pick up a new one, some do it quicker tahan others. A reboot normally resolves.

all sorted! I had to reset the "client" routers independantly of the new network - assign them IP addresses on the new subnet - and everything was cool. The horizon didn't seem to like a dumb switch - but i just swapped in an old 10/100 router and it was fine.

Thanks for the help! Now I just need to get used to the terrible tv scrolling menu...
