How often do you get out with your camera?

How often do you guys actually get out and about with your cameras to practice and experiment? I feel bad as I have not done it in ages, even after recently buying a few new lenses. I'm often just lazy about it - or not bothered going out on my own. Must make a bigger effort.

How much of an effort do you make to get the camera out?

I've started keeping my camera in the boot of my car. Having it there all the time means that now, I find myself pulling over quite a lot and snapping, where before I would see something and think "I wish I had my camera". It means that in the last 3 months, I have had my camera out at least 3 or 4 times a week.

Admittedly this only works if you have a car and drive a lot!!!!

I'm taking Photos everyday... and its not even my Job.

But I have to take photos everyday,... I'm having loads of problems, working out the balance between, Av/Tv/ISO/white Balance and Focus.

    But I'm getting there.

"Take few friends with you if your out in City, I was shooting in Amsterdam the other week, two Lads came up to me and wanted to see the pictures I was taking.

They were very demanding and within seconds quickly surrounded me.

I said sure! quietly confident that the 3 Grown Men walking just infront of me were my close friends.

I distracted the two guys by pointing my camera screen up, which was tied around my neck by the way, which gave my 3 friends enough seconds to quietly surround the two guys.

My mate said "lets Dance" to one of the Guys, who quickly jolted out of shock that he and his friend was now surrounded by 4 very large grown men.

Never felt my camera gear so safe, in my life.

You need to get over your irrational fear.

I don't think I'd feel safe around a mate who uses the term let's dance.

i used to go out every day with the camera, but now it's probably once a fortnight. sometimes if i don't get a chance to get out to take new pics, i go back and try new editing techniques on old pictures.

I very rarely go out specifically to take photos with my DSLR at the moment, way too busy with college right now.

I do take my Pentax Q everywhere with me since I got it, just in case I see something interesting on my travels.

Used to be about once a week, but I haven't had time recently.

I don't think I've been out taking photos for about two months. I haven't even finished developing the photos I took on my holidays in August.

I have about three weeks off for Christmas and I intend to make up for lost time.

I try to get out at least once a week, but I would have my camera out of the bag everyday, either to take a few photos of birds in the garden, or work on a club competition shot, or just to learn a bit more about the menus and buttons.

I don't like going out alone, just not comfortable so joined a camera club where there is nearly always someone willing to go out for an hour or three! Whatever about a fella out on his own, women would be more vulnerable and it's not worth taking a chance, if anything happened to my gear I would never be able to replace it.

at the moment it's not particularly good. mostly shooting for others / on specific occasions / rarely for myself. I'm not too worried though. Its time related generally and eventually time will come back to me and i should get time to work on it more.

also, imho as you master the technicallities of the camera equipment, lens, flash, etc... you are likely to hit a slump or dip in your enthuasism for the art unless you are actively pursuing specific projects. Otherwise, and without alternate purpose, it can become the same old same old, and for most, non interesting stuff.

So, in the past year or so i'm probably in the magicbastarder camp. Max of half a dozen times. Highly enjoyable when I do. But not half as much as I'd like to be shooting, and not particularly who i'd rather be shooting.

Not as much as i'd like to... I've hit a major photo-funk over the past 12 months or so and I just haven't the drive to go out and take pics, and anything I do take i'm not happy with...

I guess it's just a time thing, but hopefully soon i'll start to enjoy it again!

This weekend I shot three football matches and over the last two weeks I've also done a boxing tournament, two road races, a team photo shoot and a work retirement. Have a Boxing Board (committee) shoot tonight as well. I keep fairly active doing stuff like that and usually enjoy the sports shots but spend zilch time on learning or on stuff I'd like to do for myself.

Total 'Me' time in the last 12 months - I'd guesstimate it at nil!! :(

I'd say so long as you are enjoying the other stuff and that it doesn't become a chore, then on balance you'd be doing reasonably well. The me-stuff will come back to you in time.

I do a lot of photos for my running club, would really like to get into landscape photography, I live in the centre of Dublin and don't drive so maybe I'm a bit restricted because of my location and the traveling involved.

During the summer I get out about twice a week but in the winter months hardly at all. Keep meaning to set up macro or lighting experiments but never do.

I've started keeping my camera in the boot of my car.
You might want to be careful about that as the temperature drops. I left a camera in a cold room only to find the screen on the back cracked in the morning. Severe cold could cause damage to components inside if the metal contracts and breaks soldered connections.

I keep telling myself to bring my camera with me whenever I go somewhere but I also don't like the responsibility that comes with having expensive camera equipment with me. I have a plan to start tracking crow around the place though so that will give me an excuse to go out with the camera.

Also be careful leaving your camera in the back of your car. A few years ago I left all my camera gear and a laptop and some music equipment in my boot - the car was broken into overnight and everything was stolen. The gear can be replaced, its only money - but I lost hundreds of amazing photos from one of the most important events of my life - I was absolutely gutted and it still angers me thinking about it even years later. Also, get insurance through your house insurance and add all the camera stuff put on there - its not that expensive.

I always carry my trusty x100 everywhere I go. Although I am guilty of not having the battery charged all the time.
