    Quick one lads,

My car is due its NCT soon.

Yesterday the oil sensor light came on whilst driving.

Not a big issue but I'm wondering would it be an NCT fail if I put it through like that?

    Cheers

Sounds like a response from a magic 8 ball :D

Im thinking so too though, even thought its only an oil level sensor that serves only an "informative" purpose and has no mechanical or safety impact whatsoever.

Have you checked the oil level?

I'd be more worried as to why the sensor is throwing an error.

Had a similar event once, oil level light came on while driving. Pulled in and checked dipstick, all ok and light went out. I discovered that the dipstick had to be seated fully otherwise the light would come on.

The oil light itself is not a failure, only malfunction indicators for Airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS/Electronic Braking System (EBS) and Parking Brake are tested.

If it's a diesel (perhaps not if you're getting 20.4mpg) they will refuse to do the smoke test, and that is a fail.

If the car has a dipstick and the oil level can be verified the car wont fail because of that light.

Tacho range would suggest it's petrol.

The cause of the sensor trigger needs to be found - low level of oil is one thing, but a failing oil pump is another, irrespective of NCT.

What is the service history on the vehicle? When was oil changed last? What viscosity oil? More information would help in getting a better quality answer.

Was thinking that too. CO/HC/Lamba test needs no oil light too.
    9. This test should not be carried out where:
    (a) the oil warning light remains on with the engine running.
    (b) the oil level is below the manufacturer’s minimum level.
    (c) the oil level is above the manufacturer’s maximum level.

This isn't a "LOW OIL or "OIL PRESSURE" warning people!!!

    The oil is fine.

Its simply a warning light that informs you the oil level SENSOR is broken.

I don't want to replace it just yet because that means draining the Oil, however, i changed the oil less than 2,000 miles ago so that would be a bit of a waste.

Also, the picture is from google images. Mines a diesel version (Audi A4 B6 TDI)

Then you should have nothing to worry about re NCT. BTW you can drain the oil into a clean container and reuse it.

True but thats my worry, that the tester will misinterpret the warning light like some people did here and fail / refuse to test the car.

Just say it to him before handing over the car, perhaps point out the meaning of the lamp from the owner's manual.

Had the same before in my E46 when the oil level sensor was broken.

Orange oil level light came on for 20 seconds every time you started the car.

Passed NCT no problem, the tester said "you might wanna keep an eye on it" when handing over my cert.

Ok so a light warning that the oil level sensor is broken passed. Good to know.

My uncles peugeot went through the nct last week and the abs light flashing... I lost a 20 euro bet. I was 100% it'd fail.. They must not look at the dash boards anymore lol

I thought ABS light was a definite fail.

I would have bet 100 on it not just 20.

In fact, i probably would still bet a 100 that the car should have failed with the abs light flashing!

I know mate. He has an electrical fault. I drove it today and the whole dash is lit up like a christmas tree. Now he has a 2 years nct ffs
