The only thing I'm missing is a case, he wants something bling with lights etc, I could use some suggestions here. I'm guessing a gaming/bling case and keeping things silent don't go hand in hand so well?

If there's room to bring the cost down a bit without a performance hit then that would also help a lot.

The heatsink, is it compatible with socket 1150?

You're on the right track anyway. With a couple of changes you could save some money and improve performance. The 7950 is a better choice. Stock performance is about the same as the 760 but it has a lot of overclocking headroom. You could easily get 20% extra performance out of the card.

The xeon is basically an i7 without the integrated graphics. It would only be a little slower than that i7 but costs significantly less. The cooler was a bit overkill for a non overclocked pc as well.

If you go to http://geizhals.de/ you can get a discount. Just search for each part individually on the site, select the matching part and it will give you a list of sellers. Select hwvs and it will give you a link with the discounted price. You might save around €100.

Thanks Bloodbath! I found that site after I posted, saved about 60e or a little more.

I'll swap out the gfx and cpu for the ones you mentioned. The big ass cooler was more so that it would be a bit more quiet even if it's overkill.

I was looking at that case earlier, any experience with it? I like this one has a window but it ends there, unlike this one.

No bother.

The 212 is pretty quiet and since you aren't overclocking you could run it at about 50% speed to make it silent. It would still be up to task of cooling that xeon.

The Zalman case has great reviews. It's a good budget bling case for the money. I love the R4. I'm replacing my Thermaltake Chaser mk-1 with one this week. It's not exactly bling but it's one of the best cases out there. The minimal sleek design is far nicer looking anyway imo.

You assume right about the bling cases. Noise cancelation is pretty poor on most of them. The R4 is well build and has sound dampening materials and design to reduce internal noise.

There's also the Nanoxia range which are similar to the R4 if you want to check them out.

The board comes with 2 x sata 3 cables which you will use for the ssd and hdd. The extra sata is for the dvd drive.

I remember getting more than a pair of sata cables in the past when building, that has been awhile ago though!

Those Nanoxia case also look quite nice!

Does the 500W PSU you listed give enough headroom to add more drives or a more power full gfx card in the future?

I'll have a look later on at both lists and come up with a final list and see if my mate is happy enough with it.

Yes 500w is plenty for a single gpu intel system.

Some changes to the basket and because the price has come down a good bit we're looking at upping the ram to 16gb.

Should I go with 2x8gb or 4x4gb sticks? Also, what kind of ram, I though 1600 would be better but what bloodbath listed was 1033?

That Mobo is not in stock anymore so I added the next one for a few quid more.

Gfx card also isnt in stock so added a similar one but it's discontinued or something, not sure if that means no stock or limited?

There is really no need for 16gb's of ram. It will do nothing for gaming. Games are barely using 4gb of ram at the moment. The ram I listed is 1333mhz as well. The faster stuff will show 0 gains in games.

A cheap and cheerful 8gb kit will do the trick. 2x4gb.

If you want to spend the extra money get a better case or graphics card or both.

What's the Noctua fan for? Seems unnecessary. If you want to reduce noise levels get a silenced case like the Fractal R4 or Nanoxia deep silence. The cooltek antiphon is a good budget option as well.

I'd go for a R9 280x as well. Most are out of stock at the moment but you can get the Sapphire vapor-x version for about €280.

You really don't need 600w of power. That pc will use 350w tops so you could save money and grab the be-quiet system power 7 500w which is silver rated as well.

Appreciate the comments, I'll change the ram and psu to what we had previously and a 500w model.

I couldn't find that gfx card? Their all out of stock for me or I'm not seeing the right one?

The fan was a left over, I was trying to go with a better case but we're sticking with the zalman one.

As it is now the list comes in at 910ish so there's a little room to beef up something if we have to.

Bah all of the 280's are out of stock.

This says it's a discontinued line. I don't know if they still have stock of it but it can be got for the bargain price of €218 through geizhals.

There's lots of gtx 770's, is there any difference between them, they all seem to have 2gb ram (where as the other cards I had in the basket were 3gb)

2gb of graphics memory is plenty for 1080p. The Asus model I linked has one of the best coolers.

If you can get a good deal on a 280x from another site for similar price though I'd go for that.

Performance of both cards is around the same.

The extra gb of memory and the possibility that mantle will improve performance in some games would make it the better choice.

Not too sure jozi, have not ordered off them in awhile, but I have heard something about the bank they use being taken over by another bank, or some ****. Have a quick look on boards about it.

That doesn't sound to promising! I had a quick look but no specific threads other than one about paypal, so they must take that at least. A phone call will be made in the morning to sort it.
