    Hi Guys,

I have just booked flights to Memmingen (Munich West) for the first week in January.

My question is where is best to go to from here? I am looking for a resort with great skiing and a good apres ski.. Nothing like a nice beer after the slopes...:cool:

I am willing to drive but public transport is also an option, however must be easy transferes if its public transport I hate lugging my skis about on loads of connections.

I am open for any counrty / resort once its great skiing and good apres ski...

    Cheers
    Derra :D:D:D

Hi Derra! Have you looked into the Skiwelt?! Accessible from MEM by train, and a few resorts to choose from. Great atmosphere & après in Soll, both on the mountain & in the village, and great night skiing too :)

St Anton ticks all your boxes.... you need to be a reasonably good skier though.

And have a reasonable wallet. Great resort, love it, but pricey.

Oh that's true- just bring plenty of cash to St Anton! Fab skiing & apres though :)

Have a look at Lech, ski in to Zurs from there & St Anton and save plenty on accommodation, they also get better snow then St Anton and the pistes are quieter! Easy enough to get too by car and train station is 30 min away. Most hotels do free transfers from the station.

Anton is cheap if you source the right accommodation and avoid the tourist traps, the Kangaroo is cheaper than the Moosweirt.

Yeah I am thinking St Anton too. I have been to SkiWelt , Skied Soll a few years back loved it but I am one who does not like to go back to the same place twice.. Lifes too short for that and too many slopes to explore.

Does Lech have a good Apres Ski Fattes? I remember I went to Meribel (or what I though was Meribel) Bride les Bain and it was 90€ in a taxi to get to Mribel town to the pub. I dont want to make that mistake again.

    Cheers

Depends on the week but Zurs is normally busy and it's 20 minutes from Anton by bus which run well past Après ends. A cab is not that expensive between 4 of us we were paying less than 10€ a head to get back from St anton.

Very little apres in Lech! None at all in zuers it's not that sort of place. same for zug. St anton bus doesn't run to zuers after about six pm i think. stay in Anton if you want nightlife! it's also cheaper but all same ski area

think you got lucky (or unlucky, whichever way you look at it)! zuers is basically only high end hotels and the guests are typically older, wealthy couples or families. i've been quite a few times from early season to late and if your under 30 and have a normal budget best to avoid zuers and lech! or zug, cristoph, warth etc, although your right about the skiing in lech is really nice and quiet compared to crazy st anton - the last runs of the day can be terrifying! but for a young person looking for good nightlife you can't go wrong with anton. would love to go this year but looking for something different.

    what about ischgl?

Lech well known as one of europe's most expensive ski resorts but apparently you can stay there cheaply enough. I imagine the nightlife is of the caviar and martini variety. Might be good to head over and ruin their fun by showing them we're not all on our knees over here.

Zurs has by far the best pistes in the area but is a tiny resort and can't imagine it ever really has any nightlife, fattes' experience aside.

St Anton has fantastic apres scene which has to be seen to be believed and some night clubs thereafter but it can be expensive to stay near the centre of the resort, though not crazy expensive. Best piste skiing in zurs imo but there is some fantastic off piste in St anton and environs.

Op don't rule out ischgl either, one of the best lift systems in the alps, good selection of fast accessible steep blacks (unlike St anton) and nightclubs nightlife is supposed to be even better (I was there to ski so didn't really sample). It is prob even more expensive than St anton - most expensive ski rental i've ever encountered and the ruskies mean some of the excess is ridiculous - 25k bottles of bubbley in an otherwise run of the mill bar. But still an excellent report I'd like to go back to (and if I was single I would).

The ski rental in all of them is vulgar North of Eur 150 for the week! Its shocking prices are fixed betwenn all the villages every year for every sector applied to tourists! only in Zurs for the one week have not been back since!

Lech is actually not that caviar and Maritini as you would imagine! Its the Russians, but most of its clients are well off Germans! They like the Beer;) Skiing in Lech and Anton is epic, St Anton ski school run a powder club every Sat! Eur 10 for a day's guided skiing off piste!

Thanks people for the input. I think I will look at St. anton but ramble over to Zurs on one of the days. i will most likely rent a car so should be all good.

    25k bottle of bubbley!!!... I will have 2...:rolleyes::p ;)

Got the Ski bug now cant wait for this season. Have a good one all...
