Gas or electric for hot water?

We changed from oil to gas recently and also now have well insulated hotwater storage tank. There is now a separate system to heat radiators and hot water using the gas boiler. At the moment we do not use that much hot tap water. What makes more economic sense... to use the gas to heat a full tank or to use the sink element of immersion to heat smaller amount?

A setting on the gas boiler for 30 minutes heats up full tank. There is a timer on the immersion with 15 minute slots and that gives very hot water to sink section which is sufficient for showers/kitchenwork so might be on twice a day.

Apologies if this has already been discussed.
