    A golf addicts nightmare ...

Course closed, ringing the information line, next inspection at 12 ,
I remember as a young lad lads playing with orange golf balls in the snow..
    they were real addicts :-)

our greenkeeper will not open the course unless the frost is lifted 100%

Yeah, my club seems to be the same over the winter.
Too much rain - course closed
A little bit of frost - course closed
a light brush of snow - course closed

Last winter wasn't too bad but the previous year was awful. I'd say the course was closed almost 60 days that year.:(
Anyone know what tomorrows forecast is like?

I was meant to be out at 8.20am this morning, checked Twitter when I woke and it said course closed with inspection at 11, than at 10 is said there'd be an inspection at 12. TBH I can understand the greenkeepers erring on the side of caution.

Has to be done unfortunately. Every good greenkeeper will have to make the call this time of year, esp with parklands

Are they protecting just the greens, or can tee boxes and fairways get damaged..?? on our course they could easily use temp greens on the long par fours and fives , and open 12 holes no prob ?
Temp greens is better than no golf ,
Last year I used to wake during the middle of the night, look out the window and the top of my car at 3 am was my barometer as to whether I was golfing or not in the morning, the anxiety of it all !

Not that I will get to play this weekend but certainly one of the perks playing links golf.

May sound like a stupid question is it the sea air or something else that makes frost not so much a factor fir links courses?

we only use temps for frost/snow
course is always open so (unless there is a flood)

however Id prefer if they kept the course closed until the frost lifted.
annoying to be on temps all day when the frost lifted at 9am...

In fairness the greens can be badly damaged by people walking on them with frost. Check out this video.
