    Guys

I have a unusual problem with my vw. One day last week myself and the wife headed off from the house. I unlocked the car with my key and she started the car with her key. When we landed at our destination, We both were able to get out but I couldn't get the passenger door opened again. I rang a mate of mine and he said it was the dead lock on the passenger door that won't activate because of the different keys? How scan I reverse this? One garage said there us a way but it's very hard to get my head around it....

    Any one help please?

    Assuming it's a B5 Passat (1996 - 2005)........

It is probably the lock gone "tits-up" and it's failed in the locked position. You can try shocking it into working by hitting the door (right where the door lock assembly is) with the bottom of your fist while operating the unlock button.

If this doesn't work, you're gonna have to get the door card off (fiddly with the door closed) and try shocking the lock that way. If that doesn't work, you'll have to replace it. This is probably one of the most fun jobs you can do on a Passat.

It's not really a diy job, beyond using your fist to shock it - you'll have to get it into a garage or to a mechanic as removing the door card and then removing the lock (prior to fitting a new one) is hard.

1 final tip; don't use a second hand lock, just pay the few extra € for a new genuine one. It'll save you money and frustration in the long run.
