Hardwood floor sanding and refinishing

Hi, we had our hardwood floors sanded and revarnished this week. I can see the swirl marks from the sanding machine on the floor. Also there are some very rough patches near the edges. Are the swirl patterns and rough patches normal? I got a professional to do the job so it would be done properly and now I'm disappointed. I paid him before I could walk across and check the floors. Any advice appreciated. Thanks
