District Court records

I'm doing some research for an essay and came across a newspaper article about a case that may be relevant. It's a provincial District Court criminal case from a couple years back.

The paper named the accused so I assume it was dealt with in open court and thus is a matter of public record. But I'm not sure how to get that record. The detail available on the ISIS site (sample case) is what I'm looking for but that site doesn't seem to have been updated for years.

Can anyone tell me how I could get this type of information about the case?

Before computerisation of District Courts ( about ten years ago ) all summary decisions were recorded in the Justices's Minute Book. One volumne in each DC venue. The old ones may be stored in present surviving DC officers, or in the PRO.

Thanks nuac, but the case is from 2011. I assume from your post that means it's computerised but how do I access the computer records?

You would have to contact the DC office.

While solicitors and media would have been emailed a list of cases for the day, that is not online.

    As already suggested, local papers

Thanks, I've looked in the local papers but the details are pretty sparse. Any recommendations for how to get the most info out of the court office - letter, phone call, visit?

    Great thread,

I want to find out about a district court matter that took place this summer, it was small enough so wasn't reporter in any news paper...

How could I get info on it, all I know is the month and the surname of one of the parties...

Always worth asking in the DC office, but if the matter is not in the recent past I wouldn't hold my breath.

Did you check the local papers. Some of them have almost total coverage of their local court sessions even down to individual speeding fines.

These would be available in the local libraries.

Sorry for posting to an old thread.

I contacted the DC where I was a witness to a dangerous driving case. On the morning in question, I got a call from the Guard who explained that she was pleading to the lesser charge of careless driving. I thought, from research at the time (Oct 14) that the lesser charge could not be pleaded to, or at least not without being personally present in court.

My concern is that, to date, I can find no record of this in the press, on or offline. I contacted the DC and they told me, that because of data protection concerns, they could not release this info to me (I had requested a search facility). When I re-stated that it was a search facility I was seeking, and not data release, they again (snottily) reiterated that I should contact the Garda in question. I am seeking written record, not word of mouth. I want to know that firstly the danger this person put myself and my other half in has been recognised and secondly that they have not succeeded in circumventing what i thought was a change in law. It should be noted they have celebrity family connections.

So, can you access DC case results? Surely relying on a Garda's word, while noble, is old hat at this stage.
