I do not know if this is in the right place, but basiclly would like to ask farmers around wicklow mountains, dublin mountains that would have problems with varmint , deer management and so on, for their permission to hunt on their land.
I owe a shotgun and a deer calibre rifle.I hold a deer licence permit , HCAP certificate ,NARGC insurance.

I currently hold permissions around portlaoise and would be looking for permissions closer to home.I live in dublin

If u would have any of this issues or know somebody that has please PM me or reply to this thread.

    Tks

Would wonder what some would have to do to earn farmers trust.Unfortunatelly i do not know anybody that could recommend me to farmers around wicklow mountains

    Dany..
Its nothing personal.. What you'll find is that farmers fall into two groups...

Those that are into hunting & shooting have already given rights over to a local gun club which they are probably members off..

And those, like ourselves who hate guns and hunting and let nobody onto their land to shoot..

Join a gun club in the area you want to shoot. TBH what good is one farm to you esp in an area you don't know? You ain't gonna win trust rocking up out of the blue looking for permission to shoot over land. The fact that you aren't in a gun club actually makes you look dodgy, as in you're too much trouble for the gun clubs to handle and they have excluded you.

Your only hope in that area is to join a local gun club to be honest, there's an awful lot of illegal shooting amongst other things in that area so most farmers will(and to be honest i cant blame them) be very sketchy of someone they do not know. It sucks but what can ya do

One thing I do to build up trust is go around in the off season and ask about Vermin, offering to control Fox, Crows, Mink or any other pest, build up a rapport with a Farmer, let him see you have manners and also a bit of a brain in your head, most of the Farmers I would deal with realise its a symbiotic relationship and also a free service that you are offering.

Even though I live around in County Cork I've got shooting in Kerry, Waterford, Tipperary and Kilkenny and all of those get visits all through the year for Vermin control, not just for the Deer season.

Anyway best of luck with your search, and don't take a No as a insult, there could be 100 reasons why the answer is a No.

    Lol.

I was briefly a member of a gun club. I left when the chairman suggested members "take their chances" on farmers land as the club couldn't get permission.

The club couldn't get permission as it was mostly populated by people I wouldn't give a catapult license to.

I wouldn't allow anyone to rock up to my land asking to shoot on it. Couple of years ago I heard shooting - it was a fella aiming at magpies on top of a tree. I took the head off him as in the field was a mare and less than a week old foal. He thought I would be happy to see the mags killed (which was true) but the horses were badly frightened!! Also, had somebody, who actually turned out to be a Guard and should have known better, shooting from the road into a field! I'm sure the rest of the lads on this forum have had similar problems, so we are not just being 'mean' to you OP!

Unfortunately i can see your point! But just from hearing of what goes on up around that way it is most likely to be the only option,

The most likely person to give you permission is a farmer with a young forestry with deer problems, eating young trees. Keep asking.

Don't be mean either, offer them some of your kill for the freezer. We had local gunclub in here with a clay shoot and all I got was a load of gravel in the gateway so they could drive their cars in, left a very bad taste TBH, next time they ask for the use of a field they'll be told where to go.

If the seat's wet, sit on yer hat, a cool head is better than a wet ar5e.

I am still looking for permission. It is like hiting a concrete wall around farmers doors.
i could throw 2-300 euro for a suitable land.

If I was you I would post in the sheep section every couple of weeks around lambing time. (Feb to May). Sheep farmers can suddenly get a rouge fox and it needs to be dealt with quickly.

    Thanks for info.
i would pay for a permision that has deer o it as the season is coming and could help a farmer with over populated deer or crop damage .Of course i could provide him with venison for the table if would like some.

Dany try an ad up on the counter or at weighbridge in a mill where corn is coming in. Tillage farmers wouldn't have time to be reading here or the local paper for the next 6 weeks.

If the seat's wet, sit on yer hat, a cool head is better than a wet ar5e.

Youre getting desperate aren't you? TBH farmers are a fairly savvy bunch and are particular enough when it comes to who they let on their land with a high powered rifle. Throwing money at your predicament is not going to get you far. Could it be they just don't like the cut of you? I actually think farmers these days don't like strangers rocking in to their yards unannounced. Its all about who you know and if youre able to speak their lingo. They mightn't like a guy from Dublin turning up in their yard out of nowhere. Its the times we live in unfortunately.
Most shooting I have is because of who I know or a friend of a friend, other farming connections, knowing a few people in the area etc.
Also by throwing money at them, you could be putting another man out of his shooting grounds. He might have been there for years doing the same "service" you are now offering to pay for.

Not desperate.I have shooting grounds for the season ahead.just looking for grounds closer to home because of the tight schedule with work. Most of the people from country side that i know are very polite and welcoming, it's just that they are not farmers or know farmers with issues.
I'm after suficing other methods of trying to get permissions. Not looking to leave someone without permissions.

Do you have any shooting contacts in dublin?
We have a couple of lads that shoot here so not really room for any more. Have you approached coilte? They control a lot of land in dublin. And they could do with taking out more deer

Trying to get coilte lands in dublin is like trying to climb an ice wall with flipers on.There very expensive and same lads shoot on them every year. Most of dublin lads shoot outside dublin.
i am shooting on cooilte lands in laois.
