I bought my parents a Sony 19in TV with Freeview built in about 3 years ago. When my mother died recently I had the TV for a while and have since given it to a friend for a small price. What I noticed about it was that it was able to receive Saorview channels e.g. RTE2 HD as well as standard Freeview but not able to receive local Freeview HD e.g.BBC1NI HD. Just wondering if the RTE2 is therefore full HD and how come the set receives RTE2HD and not Freeview HD?

Sorry to hear about your bereavement after all the cross-posts across the years!

Answer to the question: its a Sony MPEG4 DVB-T1 set. Therefore it receives ROI DVB-T1 HD but not DVB-T2 HD. If you have the model number you can check this out.

Condolences on the loss of your mother.

Freeview uses the newer DVB-T2/MPEG-4 standard for the HD channels and DVB-T/MPEG-2 for the SD channels.
Saorview uses DVB-T/MPEG-4 for both the SD and HD channels.
