This is going to be something.... First time in Ireland Chinese Boxing will be on a Lei tai ( platform without ropes etc.) brings a whole other dimension to awareness and control of area while fighting. Not so plesant to get kicked, punched or thrown off a platform, and I expect fights will be action packed to avoid this or do it to an opponent.

Of course the absence of ropes and cage etc. reflects real-life self defence where busy roads, rivers and canals are real "edge" conditions one can use but must avoid being used against us - this brings an unparalleled level and quality of movement to the full contact arena.

And of course as in Imperial and Republican China, the birth place of Kung Fu fighting on the "Lei Tai" means real and honest kung fu, not hiding behind esoteric nonsense or "too deadly" rubbish. It means quality, it means genuine kung fu, it seperates the men from the boys! The real from the fake! The fighters from the dreamers!

On another thread questions were asked about what is real TMA, lei tai fighting is real traditional kung fu, most styles founders made their name there!

You can be assured the schools you see involved are the real deal, those absent must invite uneasy questions!

Niall, by any chance have you ever been over to Liverpool for the Wirral Chinese Martial Arts (Kung fu) Tournaments? It is good to hear that the Lei Tai has finally made it to Ireland. There used to some videos on Youtube of the Wirral tournaments. I can't sem to find them anymore. Not to sure if Youtube deletes videos after a time.

I hope to get along to this. Work permitting. If you have never seen a Chinese martial arts tounament, especially one where the action takes place on the Lei Tai, you are in for a treat.

For a start Chinese Kung fu tounaments allow those from different styles to compete using their own fighting styles and doesn't confine them to having to fight according to the style of the organiser of the tournament.

Often the tounaments promote some great rivalries but also some great friendship and respect.

All in all there were 19 Irish Sanshou Champions crowned at the historical first Lei Tai competiton in Ireland

    8 Senior Champions
    11 Junior Champions

There are 4 vacant senior titles for next year.

The Junior divisions we expect to fill next year with a re-vamp of the divisions and Qingda Rules (this is a no knockout version for junior sanshou!)

All of our Champions and Runner ups will be part of the Irish National Sanshou Squad for 2014 as recognized by the International Wushu Federation (IWUF).
