    Quick questions guys,

right, I am a 24yo and I work paid for 20 hours per week. Now, someone before had mentioned I may be entitled to something like JSA or something similar to that effect. So I filled out the forms, went into the welfare office, hadn't a clue where I was going and everyone was staring at me as I've never claimed anything before.( I wasn't entitled to anything as I was a college student).

So the lady at the counter, went through everything and said their where 2 ways about this...
1: because I live at home, I would be means-tested... and My dad makes over that threshold I think.
2: I would need to prove that I was working full-time and my hours where only then reduced to 20 hours as a result... now I did work full time for over a month but that was it..

Now, I was to bring all the paper work back again 2 weeks later but I was sick. I did ring the office and a rather rude lady on the phone indirectly told me to be there or " I was getting nuffin". I couldn't actually move but that's not the point. My Question is how do I go about this... I get very nervous in the welfare office, and its not because Im scamming them, its because I've never been nor claimed anything and don't want to come across as stupid.

Any suggestions most welcome :) and thanks in advance Guys. I dunno what to do:(
Another quick question, If I leave employment and take on an internship can I claim straight away or do I have to wait for something like 12 weeks or something?

However, you may get a proportion of your Jobseeker’s Allowance if your days at work are reduced or if you can only get part-time or casual work

How parents' income can affect Jobseeker's Allowance

Have a look through the info in these links and go back to the SW office as soon as possible. As you did not turn up for your appointment, or since, they may not let your claim run from the day you originally went in. Explain that your nervousness was the reason you didn't go back. If you have a friend or relative who is also claiming payment it would perhaps be helpful if they accompany you to the SW office.

You can't take up a JobBridge Internship until you have been signing on for at least 3 months (78 days) in past 6 months. http://www.jobbridge.ie/toolkit/faqintern.pdf

With reference to the lady you met at the counter... from item 2 this would suggest to me that you have a jobseekers benefit entitlement which is not means tested but if your normal working week has been 3 days and it still is 3 days then you would not qualify for jsb as you would not have had any substantial loss of employment. With reference to item1 re jobseekers allowance... your fathers earnings will be used as means against you as well as your earnings from employment but there are quite a lot of disregards in this situation e.g parents mortgage/rent payments, private health care and also disregards for the number of dependant children in the house.
With regard to your question about leaving employment... if you do so of your own accord then you can be disqualified for up to 9 weeks and you will have to be in payment for 78 days before you can apply for jobbridge.

It more than likely at this stage that your initial claim has been closed as you did not return the information on time.
