I would like to try Smoke Photography but do not have Slave Flash or Speedlite, can anyone direct me to a link which shows a set up to do this?

Try a strong torch positioned to one side of the incense stick, and a white reflector to the other side, a black background and play around with your settings to get the desired result. You might need a piece of card wrapped around the torch to form a snoot effect, which will direct the beam where you want it.

Thanks Rainbowsend, should the room be in complete darkness when taking the photographs?

No need for the room to be dark, although it shouldn't be bright enough where your (I presume) black background is going to have a huge amount of light on it. You can minimise this by making sure your smoke is a good distance away from your background, expose for the smoke and let the Inverse Square Law take care of the rest!!
