Sorry, this is a duplicate post, but thought it would be suited here as well as the PC building forum, sorry mods, delete/merge if appropriate

    Hi ,
I'm in the market to update my PC - I was looking at this thread here in Photograhpy: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2057085942
The PC I have is :

And it's fine for everything except processing RAW files (5D III) on LR4.

It can take a long time >20 mins for batches of 50.

I'm not looking for the best i7 processor, but a good one, and I was thinking 16GB of RAM would do it too .

Also someone said it could be the disk access ? I don't know it doesn't make a lot of noise when processing is
going on, but I suppose I need to find the bottleneck.

Here is the performance of the PC whilst processing a batch

I guess my question is what spec should I go for to process raw files in LR4 a lot faster ?

Working with them in real time can be a bit sluggish too .

    Cheers

It may just be HDD.Have similar spec and definitely don't have such a long processing time's. Try getting SSD should make all the difference. When I got mine made all the difference.

Really ??? someone suggested the same, but RAW files are roughly 50MB and output files are 10-20 MB , and the HDD doesn't make much noise, I can't imagine its the HDD ?

But maybe, SSD drives, I'd be best getting an internal or external one ? im thinking internal for the speed, I have USB 2 , not sure thats quick enough ...

Well your screen shot shows that your PC is not 100% loaded aswell .wouldn't worry about external ones get internal sata-600 interface just make sure that your mobo supports it.when I got it windows loads up in few seconds and all the tasks are lightning fast once it's on the drive.best upgrade I ever did on my PC.
Modern HDD's don't make too much noise anyway so you can't tell from the noise if its working 100% or not.
