Shielding a Strat

Hi all,

I have a strat and the humming is driving me mad. I've tried different amps as I originally thought the problem was with my tube amp.

I have a noise gate but even with that cranked up high - I can still hear the hum and the noise gate zaps a lot of tone and sustain.

I'm planning on getting the guitar shielded....reckon that should sort my issue. Has anyone got this done before? If I could get a tough idea of how much it would cost that'd be great

Cost? If you can use a soldering iron, then less than a tenner. If you can't, get one and practise on some scrap. It's not difficult, and will save you the difference between a tenner and whatever a 'tech' will charge.

There's no 'tech' in a strat that would justify the term 'tech' being applied to a person doing wiring work on it.



Seriously. Learn to do the maintenance stuff. You'll save a fortune over a lifetime of playing. If you have stock pickups though, you'll never fully eliminate ground hum.

Here. Have a read o' this. Ignore the 'qualified luthier' bit. Qualified luthiers get 'qualified' by messing around with instruments. Mess around with enough instruments and you'll become qualified.
