Seen one for sale on Adverts but It was very expensive so i had a look on eBay and they are priced very resonably . I was thinking of getting one for the back garden because Im a highhandicap player and a few hours practice striking balls really apeals to me .

Just wondering lads are they any use and would anyone thats had or has one recommend them or do you find them a waste of money , Cheers

In my own opinion, I'd be inclined to think waste of money. You can't see the ball flight and will have no idea if it was a good or bad shot. You could be ingraining terrible habits and not know it.

I have used one in the past and I think they are a great practice tool. You know when you have hit the ball well by the contact you make on the club. Also you can get stickers (/use tape) to show you your exact contact on the clubface. They also help with practice, swing tempo and can help with working on drills. Especially useful for high handicappers IMO.

Many high h/crs purchase lessons & then don't or can't practice what they are taught by their teaching Pro.

Any practice aid which makes it easier to continue their lessons is useful.

I was only thinking of one of these last week, would love to get a permanent one for the top of the garden, but the ebay ones are flimsy and the permanent ones seem very expensive.
I've even though about building a scaffolding frame and attach a good net to it. would need good coverings for the metal frame and a good astro-turf style base mat.

dangerous if you don't know what you are doing.
done of my finest strikes result in horrible shots.
other than warm up I'd say lower rather than higher handicaps.

Nets really only good for warming up where a range is not available.

You could be hitting a dirty big slice out of the sweet spot and feel your swing is perfect. Really need to see your ball flight

Mixed bag, I kind of agree they aren't really that productive. Pulls sometimes feel unbelievable, and fly further, if you can't see where the ball went you don't know how you are squaring the clubface, could be ingraining bad habits.

But it would be good for improving contact, which could be good for high HC, mats aren't ideal though.

They would be good for gaining clubhead speed with Driver as accuracy is not too important, if the net could handle that.

The other thing is it's coming up to XMas so may as well get something that you might otherwise not get rather than another jumper or the like, I'll be handing my net straight over to the missus to give me for XMas...:P
