I am in the process of up grading to SKY Plus HD and as my box is not beside my TV at the moment, I have a "eye" on the TV and the box in another place, it is also connected to two tv upstairs again using the "eye". I have just been informed that the SKY will no longer connect to the upstairs TV and the box has to be beside the TV for HD.

Has this happened to anyone else?

    Thanks.

I think it because you will need a HDMI cable to go from the box to the TV. Im pretty sure tho you can still connect it to the TVs upstairs with the eye. Im open to correction on that tho.

I am assuming I must have one already as I had the previous SKY box connected to upstairs - will check it out this evening. Thanks.

Normally two cables run from the dish to the box. I assume 2 cables do not currently run from the dish to the main TV, so cables would need to be installed for the box to work.

By the way RTE2 and BBC etc are available for free from Sky without paying for the "HD pack" as long as you have any HD Sky box.

The new Sky HD boxes no longer have modulators built in, hence why they can't connect to the other TV's or use eyes. They instead have a port for an external modulator with eye compatibility.

You need an IO Link to overcome this. like this

stay with the current box and don't upgrade as your red eye will not work as the new hd box has no 9v power outlet to power the red eye.alternatively ask installer to sort out a triax sender as only way red eyes will work for you.installer may not set up tho,sky trying to get more multirooms thru the new box.upgrade?more like a downgrade

The IO Link I mentioned would be much cheaper than the Triax TriLink, specifically designed for the new HD boxes.

They removed the modulator and added a wifi module for OnDemand convenience and some spiel about lower energy usage...

Jaysus, I hope not, sold our last one today. Of course, demand for it is growing. I think quite a few homes locally here use RF2 in some capacity for other rooms.

I still think it was a poor move to remove the modulator, but it happened. The cynic in me would think it's to allow Sky to encourage Multiroom subscriptions. No doubt, they get an extra few quid from iO Link sales too.

None of my suppliers can even get them been given a date of dec 7 as next delivery for them...a lot of sellers online selling them for ludicrous prices....heard sky claim they ran out of supplies of older stock quicker than expected meaning demand of i/o links are out stripping the supply chain by global...
