Considering ITs

    Hey guys :)

So i kinda need help from someone who knows ITS/the surroundings quite well. I did my LC in 2013 and started college in Limerick but it didnt suit me at all (the course, the size of the college and the people) so I dropped out. I am toying with the idea of going back to college if not in 2014 then 2015 - and I'm considering ITS. Namely the Performing Arts course, which frankly is one of the only types of courses I'd put myself through going back to college for! :P

Anyway what I wanted to know is I've never actually been to campus, and dont know much about it. How big is it? What type of accomodation is on offer? Is there alternatives to student accomodation - I may just have had bad luck with where I was but Im kinda scarred for life D: Whats the social life like? Gotta say I like a drink but I dont like the college lifestyle of going out and getting hammered, thats not fun for me and as I'm suffering from a few illnesses its hardly safe D: i get that I'll never find a college that isnt largely full of party people, but generally whats the scene like? I was hoping to find like minded or considerate people and I thought itd be easier at a smaller IT. I'd like to know a bit about the surroundings too. And anyone with info on the course modules and stuff gets a bonus :D

Studying there and have to say, students are more or less the same everywhere. Sorry to hear you decided to leave, but it looks like its a positive decision for you. The thing about students everywhere is that what may be imagined as party people mostly don't make it past first year, so some patience may be required. Something I like about Sligo is the societies. If the mix of students does not suit you then you do have groups of like minded people elsewhere. I study archaeology and have to say the students, lecturers and course is great. On accom. It's easy to pick a lemon first time out and not many stay in the same place year after year. Sligo has dedicated student accom, mostly student estates, mixed family and student estates and individual flats and houses - mostly it is budget as well as type that will decide that for you. Best of luck to you whatever your decision.

Thanks a mill. Is it common to go for living in houses maybe renting a room in a house so to say, with other students? Dunno if that's a big option around ITS, it was where I was before. Thing is id like to live with a friend of mine going next year too and we aren't big party people so us renting a room in a house together with other students (preferably from different years) would suit us lots

I am not renting myself but if you give the student union a ring, they may be able to give you some specific and up to date, and also possibly a list of accommodation in your bracket. They seem quite proactive in keeping a lid on anything outrageous so its quite likely they know the quiet and lively areas. They are on facebook and possibly have a contact through itsligo.ie .
