looking to upgrade my mbp , im wainting till the new year to get a 2014 model and until i put some cash together , planning on getting the top or near best model as i want it to last me 4 or 5 years and still be in or around the same competitive specs when new models come out down the line like the MBP I have now !

so what im asking is , am I better waiting for the 14 models, that will have the hashwell and SSD drives on them ??

this seems to be the best one with the specs and price :

    2.4GHz dual-core Intel Core i5
    Turbo Boost up to 2.9GHz
    8GB 1600MHz memory
    256GB PCIe-based flash storage1
    Intel Iris Graphics
    Built-in battery (9 hours)2

but i will be upgrading to the 2.8 GHZ dual core intel core i7 with turbo boost to 3.3 GHZ

what would be the benifts of having the 256GB PCI flash storage?? will i need higher? benifits?

i also was wondering if it was posile to get a 2.8 ghz with turbo boost with a quad core i7????

this will be my first mac book that i will be buying from new so i want to get it right and i am looking forward to it aswell

    thanks leds:D

The MacBook Pros were only updated and have Haswell and SSDs. If you are waiting for the next refresh you will be waiting a while.

I wouldn't bother bumping the processor unless you need it. It's unlikely to add anything to the lifespan of the machine. Storage and RAM are the main thing.

MBP's are not like cars, the new year doesn't necessarily bring new products. It could be at least June if not October before there is a new version...

As sadprof said, RAM and storage are your best bets. i5 will suit your needs perfectly.

16gb RAM and a 512ssd would be what I'd be looking at also a good USB3 or thunderbolt external drive for backup and additional storage if you expect your machine to last that long.
